Close by, each piece is distinct from the rest - a little masterpiece in stone mosaic. Tiny coloured stones processed by tumbling them in drums - which action softens the edges and brings a warmth to the surface as well as to the acoustic properties of the stone. We have reduced the process of 'pebble creation' (perfected by Nature over millennia) by several thousand years. Times change - but not fashion it seems - these designs have been known throughout antiquity. The classic mosaic borders we offer today are made from pieces of tumbled stone that are applied to a mesh by hand, making them easy to lay as well as to transport.

Our first three sinks are cut from solid blocks of travertine. Then they are turned, hollowed, filled and then polished and finished by hand so that they can hold water. The round mosaic classic travertine sink (bottom right) is made entirely by hand from specially selected travertine mosaics which are moulded into shape before being filled and polished.

The art (for Art it is) of arranging coloured pieces of marble, glass, tile or pebble to produce a surface ornament is oder than Egypt's pyramids. But it was not until we stumbled upon the bright idea of stringing them into borders by setting them into tiny stainless-steel palettes that our range of Mixed Format Borders was created.
